01 - The Brief
Creating a Website
Worth Diving For.
Miami Technical Diving is owned and operated by James Blackman, an internationally respected Recreational, Technical and Closed Circuit Rebreather Instructor, with a special interest in Technical Wreck Diving. With a career in diving spanning twenty years, James has built a loyal audience of past students and colleagues in the diving community, allowing him to also offer unique expeditions around the world to his thousands of subscribers.
While James had no trouble keeping busy teaching students and managing multiple expeditions each year, his website lacked the proper structure or information to close many prospective inquiries, and needed an overhaul to align with his brand. On top of a better functioning website that lead to generated more leads, the website needed to be built with automation in mind, since James would often be gone for weeks at a time in remote diving locations, and would need to apply changes quickly and with minimal effort.

02 - The Solution
Straightforward User-Journeys, and Highly Automated Processes.
While we were given specific instructions to ensure the Miami Technical Diving (MTD) site felt like an evolution of the existing DiversReady! site (the Youtube counterpart for MTD), we explored a wide range of executions for how to best approach the new site experience. Each design carefully considered the unique needs behind each page and the most common questions that James was asked when meeting prospective students, ensuring their journey was as seamless as possible, and their most likely questions, quickly answered.
The final site design merged multiple of our initial concepts together, creating a modern user experience that used clean, consistent treatments across all 20+ site pages, while expanding upon MTD’s core visual identity in a natural way.
To support the clients frequent trips and their need for a streamlined update process, the website architecture was carefully optimized and templatized in virtually every way possible. Using an interweaving structure of templated course pages allowed the MTD team to quickly add or remove courses, and using a dynamic library of site components, the client could quickly make a single update that would be universally applied across every page of the website. Most importantly, this was achieved using a very small library of plugins, meaning the website was stable, light-weight and reliable.
